Bryan Levman, writing in the Journal of the Oxford Centre for Buddhist Studies, said, “The word Sati incorporates the meaning of ‘memory’ and ‘remembrance’ in much of its usage in both the suttas and the [traditional Buddhist] commentary, and… without the memory component, the notion of mindfulness cannot be properly understood or applied, as mindfulness requires memory for its effectiveness”.

It is proven, then, that mindfulness is the quality of being present and fully engaged with whatever we’re doing at the moment — free from distraction or judgment, and aware of our thoughts and feelings without getting caught up in them.

The ‘Mindful Living’ package at Niraamaya Retreats is developed and led by MA Shaheerudheen, a mindfulness coach, a Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) Practitioner certified by American Board of Neuro-Linguistic Programming, a Hypno-therapist certified by American Board of Hypnotherapy, Level II Reiki healer, who has innovated and introduced several unique wellness concepts to the Niraamaya Retreats, such as Walking Meditation, the Power of Aum and Cleansing Bonfire.

Popularly known as Shahir, he brings on board two decades of global experience in leading corporate and individual transformation workshops and sessions. An ardent practitioner and follower of the pathbreaking mindfulness works of Dr John Kabat-Zinn, he offers individual mindful living coaching sessions on-demand. He is also considered a specialist in Enneagram Personality Profiler (a 2,500 years old personality analysis tool) and his sessions blend NLP, hypnotherapy, TA and Enneagram.

According to Shahir, “Simply being in a mindful state momentarily sets the environment for a greater sense of well-being. Mindful Living at Niraamaya allows guests to not just rest and rejuvenate but also transformed internally. The Mindfulness Coaching programs at Niraamaya spans a wide spectrum of goals.

  • The 1.5 hour-long ‘Mindful Living sessions, led by the Mindfulness Coach, is aimed to de-stress, realign and increase self-awareness.
  • The Personality Analysis sessions aim to discover your Enneagram Type (a system of personality type that describes patterns in how people conceptualise the world and manage their emotions. It is aimed at understanding the emotional patterns and offers tips on how to achieve a balanced life.
  • The Niraamaya Springs is a curated program that meaningfully integrates Mindful Living session with Reiki healing session and Yoga Nidra – a combination of practices that are aimed at providing lasting resources and balancing energy channels.
