Ingredients for Squid Pepper Recipe

To start, you'll need the following ingredients:

  • 25 ml coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp julienne ginger
  • 1 tbsp sliced garlic
  • 2 julienne green chillies
  • 1 sliced red onion
  • 6 curry leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • ¼ tsp coriander powder
  • 120 g squid, cut into rings
  • ½ tsp roughly crushed black pepper

Here's how to make the Squid Pepper:

  1. Heat the coconut oil in a thick-bottomed pan over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the ginger, green chillies, garlic, sliced onions, and curry leaves, and fry until the onions start to brown.
  3. Add salt, turmeric powder, chilli powder, and coriander powder, and stir well.
  4. Add the squid and cook over high heat for a few seconds, stirring constantly.
  5. Finally, add the crushed black pepper, check the seasoning, and take it off the heat.
  6. It's important not to overcook the squid, as this will cause it to become tough and rubbery. Be sure to cook it for just a few seconds on high heat to ensure it stays tender and juicy.

The Squid Pepper is a perfect dish to serve as a starter or as part of a seafood feast. In addition to being a delicious dish, Niraamaya's Squid Pepper also has wellness benefits that make it a great addition to any diet. The combination of fresh squid and traditional Kerala spices not only makes for a flavorful meal but also provides numerous health benefits. Squid is a low-fat, protein-rich source of essential nutrients, while the traditional Kerala spices used in the recipe offer a variety of health benefits.
